Gimli, August 3rd, 2012

On Friday we did laundry in the morning, and then travelled north about 80km north to Gimli.  Our friend Chris owns a pub there, so we went to check it out.  Unfortunately the restaurant wasn't opening until 3pm and we needed to get back to Winnipeg for a family dinner, so couldn't stay.

We had to make other lunch plans!

We did explore the beach front, and walk around the downtown area.  This town has an Icelandic heritage, and they were celebrating that with a festival this weekend, so lots of activity going on.

Checking out Winnipeg Lake!  Warm water again...rocky beach in Gimli
Winnipeg Lake is the third largest fresh water lake in North America!  We didn't have a chance to stop at Winnipeg Beach, but we were told the sand is very fine and a wonderful swimming area.  You can wade out quite a distance and still only be waist deep.

We headed back to Winnipeg and had a family dinner with the bride and groom and a good visit with relatives we hadn't seen in awhile from Grand Prairie and Pincher Creek.
