Today we left Regina and headed to Moose Jaw and then Swift Current.  We had blue skies again today, but we did get a shower overnight while we were sleeping.  Those are the best kind!

Proof that Saskatchewan is not ALL flat..see the "hill" in the background

We planned to spend a few hours in Moose Jaw so we could take in some sights.  Moose Jaw has a historical downtown, that includes a train station that has been converted to a government liquor store, and an underground tour of the tunnels that Al Capone hid out in during prohibition in the United States.  He came up from Chicago, and dubbed Moose Jaw Chicago North.  Because of the direct rail connection from Chicago to Moose Jaw, it is believed Moose Jaw was a manufacturing point for his 97% pure alcohol.  Bootleggers could earn up to $5000.00 per week to transport the alcohol back to the US.  In the early 1900's, this was an unheard of amount of money.  None of this has been documented, but it does make for good folklore.  There are a good amount of tunnels under the city, and they were well displayed with 1920's paraphernalia.  We enjoyed the tour.

Outside the train station turned liquor store

Inside the store...nice millwork

You can still see evidence it was a train station

City Hall

We walked around the old part of town, and enjoyed the old buildings and elaborate churches.

This building is where we started the underground tour

We carried on to Swift Current mid afternoon where we are spending the night.  Off to Lethbridge tomorrow!  Alberta, here we come!

Prairie fields and cool skies...cloud formations are beautiful here
